Evacuation Procedures

Every member of the safety teams should be wearing their orange vest for easy identification. If you need vests, please let us know and we will provide for you.
Full floor and multi-floor tenants, we highly recommend that you have multiple searchers per floor. These are large spaces and time is tight in an emergency!
Make sure your employees know where all of the emergency exists are, including the doors to the side of the elevator lobby entrances and the two side stairwells. In an emergency, the metal roll-down doors may drop in front of the glass doors located on your floor.
While evacuating, always stay to the right in a single file line so that emergency personnel may access the building quickly.
When evacuating a building, food and beverages should never be brought. Small bags that are readily at hand are acceptable, but no large backpacks, roller bags, etc. Laptops should never be carried. If any of these items were to fall, they could impede the walkway and/or make walking conditions hazardous (ex. spilled coffee) and endanger lives.
For those wearing heels, it is a good idea to keep a pair of flat shoes underneath your desk that you can easily slip on. High heels are a significant tripping hazard in an evacuation.
Do not leave any doors propped open - this helps the fire spread! Doors should remain closed unless someone is exiting the building through that doorway.
For those that have internal badge readers for rooms, make sure your floor wardens and searchers have access to all of these spaces.
Anyone who might need additional help evacuating (ex. someone with crutches, a bad knee, etc.) should have at least two buddies assigned to ensure they can safety exit as quickly as possible. In an emergency situation, someone may need to be carried to safety.
Place a post-it note on every door of a room that has been searched and is vacant. Searchers, remember to put post-its low to the ground so that they can be easily seen by emergency responders.
